Football League THIS WEEKEND'S TV GAMES Posted on: 21.10.2010 Armchair viewers are in for a treat over the coming few days with a triple header of televised matches in the npower Championship to look forward to. First up on Friday night is a top versus bottom clash as league leaders Queens Park Rangers travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City. The Hoops equalled their best ever start to a league campaign on Tuesday night with a 0-0 draw against Swansea City. Whilst they are unbeaten in their opening 12 league matches they have failed to score in three of their last four games, allowing Cardiff City to close the gap to just two points at the top of the npower Championship. At the opposite end of the table, the Robins finally broke their duck on home soil, winning their first match at the sixth attempt in midweek and they will undoubtedly be keen to experience that winning feeling again when the action gets under way at 7.45pm on Sky Sports. The Ashton Gate outfit will be hoping for a repeat of their 1-0 win over the R's at the beginning of last season. A similar result this time out would see Keith Millen's side climb out of the relegation zone, for a few hours at least. The BBC are broadcasting live coverage on Saturday afternoon (5.15pm kick-off) of the Yorkshire derby between Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United. Both sides have a win, a draw and a defeat to show for their three matches so far in October. Doncaster lost 3-2 to Derby County in midweek while the Blades earned a narrow win 1-0 over Hull City. In the fixture last season the sides drew 1-1 when James Harper's late strike cancelled out James Hayter's early opener at the Keepmoat. With little to choose between the clubs on their current form it looks like being another close encounter. Completing the bill on Monday night, Leeds United play host to Cardiff City for a 7.45pm kick-off on Sky Sports. The sides are currently separated by nine points and 10th place Leeds will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a midweek loss at home to Leicester. The Bluebirds are on a run of three straight victories and will be looking to extend that knowing a win, depending on how Queens Park Rangers get on on Friday night, could take them top of the table. The teams last met at this level back in February 2007 when Cardiff ran out 1-0 winners at Ninian Park. They were victors by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture at Elland Road earlier in the season and had won the two games the season before by one goal margins as well. You have to go all the way back to February 1984 for the last time Leeds beat their Welsh opponents so recent history and the current form book leans towards a close match and the likelihood of a fifth successive win for Cardiff over their hosts. Make sure you tune in to see what happens this time out. www.football-league.co.uk/championship/news/20101021/this-weekends-tv-games_2248204_2191092

BBC Coverage: Live on Sky Sports 1, coverage on BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio & highlights on The Football League Show TEAM NEWS Bristol City manager Keith Millen is set to name an unchanged line-up following the midweek win over Reading. Midfielder Cole Skuse had hoped to return but is again ruled out by a heel injury. Queen's Park Rangers may give a full debut to striker Tommy Smith, who has yet to start since joining from Portsmouth. Former City defender Bradley Orr could return to the Rangers starting line-up after recovering from a calf problem. MATCH PREVIEW It's top versus bottom at Ashton Gate where the Championship's unbeaten leaders, Queen's Park Rangers, are looking to set a new club record. Tuesday's draw at Swansea stretched the R's unbeaten start to 12 games - matching the feat of their 1947/48 team. Bristol City are 19 points worse off than their west London opponents but they will be buoyed by Tuesday's 1-0 win over Reading, their first home victory of the season. It even prompted Robins midfielder Lee Johnson to say that the team should be pushing for the play-offs, despite the fact that they remain bottom of the table. Friday's tough test against QPR will tell us how realistic a target that is. Rangers may have stuttered slightly in recent weeks, drawing three of their last four matches, but they have a two point lead at the top of the table and, remarkably, have only conceded against Derby and Crystal Palace this season. Rangers manager Neil Warnock does not have fond memories of his last visit to Bristol City, when his Crystal Palace side lost 1-0 after scoring the 'goal that never was'. Freddie Sears' shot hit the back of the goal but bounced straight back out, fooling the officials. Warnock left saying his team had been 'cheated'. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • This is the 75th league match between these clubs. Queen's Park Rangers have won 29 of the previous 74, Bristol City 25, with 20 drawn. • The R's have not won at Ashton Gate since September 2002, when they beat City 3-1 in a League One match. • Bristol City are four goals shy of totalling 100 in competitive matches against QPR. 606: DEBATE Have your say on this match Bristol City • Tuesday's victory against Reading was City's second win of the season, and their first at home. • Millwall, Watford, Coventry and Norwich have all taken maximum points from Ashton Gate this season. • Bristol City won this fixture 1-0 last season with a goal from Nicky Maynard, who is currently out of action after knee surgery. Queens Park Rangers • QPR are the only unbeaten team in England other than Manchester United. • They have the tightest defence in the Championship, conceding just three goals and keeping 10 clean sheets. • Rangers have had penalties missed against them in their last two matches; Norwich's Wes Hoolahan put his penalty wide, while Swansea's David Cotterill saw his spot-kick saved by Paddy Kenny. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/9103700.stm

The Bristol City Fans/Players will have a problem with lovable, grandfatherly Uncle Neil!Bristol Evening Post
Millen plays down Warnock's Ashton Gate returnBRISTOL City manager Keith Millen has attempted to play down Neil Warnock's impending return to Ashton Gate. Then manager of Crystal Palace, Warnock incensed City by branding their players "cheats" in the wake of the Freddie Sears goal-that-never-was incident in August last year. Now in charge of undefeated Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers, Warnock tonight returns to BS3 for the first time since that controversy. And the outspoken Yorkshireman is guaranteed a hostile reception from angry City fans when he leads his team out in front of the Sky TV cameras for a contest between the Championship's top and bottom sides. Sears had an apparently good goal ruled out by Derbyshire referee Rob Shoebridge in that infamous game, which City went on to win 1-0. But Warnock and Palace chairman Simon Jordan fanned the flames of controversy with their after-match comments, sparking a vehement response from City chief Steve Lansdown, who leapt to the defence of his players. Warnock may have changed clubs since then, but City fans have neither forgotten or forgiven him for his comments. Yet Millen claims the episode is water under the bridge and insists he and his players have moved on. He said: "Whenever Neil Warnock is in town, it adds to the atmosphere and tonight will be no different. "But to suggest what happened last season will have any bearing on this game is wrong. "Neil and his chairman said some unfortunate things back then and it caused some bad feeling. "I think he likes to stoke things up and use it is a motivational tool. "But it's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned and you won't hear any talk of revenge from us. Neil is at a different club now and things have moved on." Former Palace captain Shaun Derry, now with QPR, sought to defuse a potentially combustible situation by admitting City's players were not at fault. He said: "It was a ridiculous decision by the officials, but that was the officials, not Bristol City. "I would not blame them one bit for anything. It was not for them to say it was a goal and I would have behaved exactly the same." Millen prefers to focus on the task of trying to achieve back-to-back wins for the first time this season – and he believes the presence of the TV cameras could inspire basement club City to spring a surprise by ending Rangers' 12-match unbeaten run. Recalling outstanding televised performances against promoted clubs Newcastle and West Brom earlier this year – City held the Magpies to a 2-2 draw and beat the Baggies 2-1 – Millen said: "We always seem to rise to the occasion when the cameras are here. "It lifted us for those games against West Brom and Newcastle and I'm sure it will have a similar effect on Friday night. "Because of those games last season, I know we are capable of beating any team in this league." City approach the contest with renewed confidence following Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Reading, their first success in six matches on home soil this term – and Millen is again urging City loyalists to pump up the volume inside Ashton Gate this evening. He said: "The crowd were brilliant for us on Tuesday and we are going to need them to get behind us like that again. "When the atmosphere is like that insides the stadium, we know Ashton Gate is a difficult place for visiting sides to play." Midfielder Cole Skuse has still not recovered from the bruised heel that ruled him out of the Reading match and Millen is expected to announce an unchanged line-up. City (probable): James, Carey, Caulker, Fontaine, McAllister, Adomah, Elliott, Johnson, Campbell-Ryce, Haynes, Stead. www.thisisbristol.co.uk/sport/Millen-plays-Warnock-s-Ashton-Gate-return/article-2788703-detail/article.html

MATCHDAY PREVIEW: ROBINS Posted on: Fri 22 Oct 2010 Table-topping Rangers are in front of the live Sky cameras for the first time this season tonight (Friday), as Bristol City play host to Neil Warnock's men. In what promises to be a rip-roaring clash at Ashton Gate, the R's have the added incentive of knowing a win against the rock-bottom Robins will see them move five points clear at the summit of the division. What's more, if Rangers avoid defeat in the Sky Sports 1 fixture, they'll set a new Club record of 13 matches unbeaten, having equalled the record with a 0-0 draw at Swansea City on Tuesday night. Despite the Robins' lowly league position, their 1-0 victory against Reading in midweek - their first win of the season - was proof that Warnock's side won't have things all their own way tonight. The Pre-Match Talk *Shaun Derry: "It has been tough going down at Ashton Gate in the past for me. "But this is a completely new team on so many levels and I'm hoping it won't be another hard luck story." *Keith Millen: "The crowd were brilliant for us on Tuesday and we are going to need them to get behind us like that again. "When the atmosphere is like that insides the stadium, we know Ashton Gate is a difficult place for visiting sides to play." Numbers Up *597 - The record number of Robins appearances made by John Atyeo. *21,548 - The capacity of the City's Ashton Gate stadium. *£2.25 million - The record transfer fee paid to Crewe Alexandra for striker Nicky Maynard. *36 - The most goals scored in a season by Don Clark in 1946/47. *11-0 - City's best Cup win over Chichester City in 1960. *£3.25 million - The biggest transfer fee received for a player in the form of Ade Akinbiyi from Wolves in 1999. KEITH RELISHING HOOPS CLASH Posted on: Fri 22 Oct 2010 Keith Millen says his City players are relishing the chance to tackle npower Championship league leaders QPR in front of the TV cameras tonight (7.45pm).The City manager is looking for his charges to build on their first home win of the season, secured with a 1-0 success over Reading on Tuesday, with victory over the top=placed side in the division. Speaking on Player, Keith said: "QPR are a good side and I can see why they are top of the league.
"They've got a good staff in Neil Warnock, who knows how to put teams together and be successful. He's had big support from the money men there, of course.
"They're very organised, disciplined and experienced. Neil's brought in a few experienced heads from his Palace team and they have some tough players who know how to win football matches."I'm confident in the ability of our squad and the attitude as well. With the confidence the lads took from Tuesday's win I'm sure it will be a good game for the fans. "Our supporters will clearly be a lot more confident after Tuesday and they really enjoyed the atmosphere. Tonight's fixture is another big one under the lights, with the Sky cameras and Neil Warnock, so it could be even louder. "We seem to relish playing in front of a TV audience and hopefully we can build on all the hard work from Tuesday and get a run going." Cole Skuse (heel) is ruled out again. www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2192146,00.html
