New Role For Robbie
Posted on: Sat 03 Jul 2010
Former United, QPR and Fulham full back Robbie Herrera has a new role this season at Plainmoor as the Youth Department is reshuffled after the arrival of Head of Youth Geoff Harrop.
Last season's youth team manager Matt Williams has taken over the important duties concerning the Centre of Excellence and Robbie himself has become Technical Skills Coach, in his interview with Gulls Player he explains his new role and the hard work required by United's trainees as they strive for a professional contract.

Paul Buckle in pursuit of new targets for Torquay United
MANAGER PAUL Buckle is already turning his thoughts to finding a replacement, but he did not try to hide his feelings over Torquay United's loss of striker Scott Rendell.
United were prepared to pay at least £20,000 for the former Crawley and Cambridge United forward, possibly with some 'roll-on' clauses added.
It was not enough.
Wycombe Wanderers, who are splashing the cash in an effort to bounce back from relegation to League Two last season, are believed to have put together a deal worth more than £100,000, with £50,000 down.
Rendell was never, of course, United's in the first place.
But he and the club came to feel as if he was, as he scored 14 goals and improved his all-round game during his long loan at Plainmoor last season.
Both Rendell and United had made it very clear that they wanted to stay together.
But in the end money talked, as it so often does in football.
Peterborough United had paid £200,000 for Rendell two-and-a-half years ago, and they were determined to get as much of it back as possible.
"It's obviously disappointing and frustrating," said Buckle.
"Not just because of how much effort we put into Scott, but what he gave us and the fact that he really wanted to come to Torquay United.
"I spoke to Scott on Thursday night, and he thanked us for everything and said Good Luck for the coming season.
"We did everything we could to sign him.
"But there's only so far we can go.
"We couldn't live with the money that Wycombe were able to pay for him.
"Scott played a big part in our season last year, and losing him does leave a gap.
"But we always knew there was a chance that he might go somewhere else, and now we move on.
"I've already started making inquiries."
Defender Chris Robertson and midfielder Lee Mansell have both put pen to paper on new two-year contracts.
In other developments at Plainmoor, there are new roles in the club's youth system for Robbie Herrera and Matt Williams.
In the wake of Geoff Harrop's arrival as Head of Youth, Herrera has been appointed as Technical Development Coach.
The former United, Fulham and QPR full-back had been co-ordinator of United's link with Paignton Sports College.
And Williams, who was youth team manager, is now Centres Of Excellence Manager.
Elsewhere, another former Gulls loanee, winger Jake Thomson, has signed a one-year contract with Exeter City after being released by Southampton.
