News of The World HAMMERS IN TALKS WITH SPERONI SPERONI: Highly-rated keeper By Neil Ashton, 15/05/2010 WEST HAM are trying to pinch Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni on the cheap. The Hammers are trying to take advantage of the Eagles' desperate financial situation to sign the Argentinian shot-stopper in a ยฃ1m deal. Speroni has been offered ยฃ15,000 a week by the Hammers - double his salary at Palace - to move to Upton Park. Even though the east Londoners are managerless after sacking Gianfranco Zola, they are still working on transfer targets with a bid already tabled for West Brom's Graeme Dorrans. Speroni, the Palace No1, is regarded as the best keeper in the Championship and is also on QPR's radar. Former Eagles chief Neil Warnock wants him at Loftus Road as he gears up for a promotion push next season. Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose is also on the way out of Selhurst Park, with Middlesbrough the latest club to put down a marker. www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/football/814665/HAMMERS-IN-TALKS-WITH-SPERONI.html

Loyal comments by Speroni This is Local London Speroni: I would play for Palace all my life if I could * By Graham Moody ยป Julian Speroni will wait on the outcome of CPFC 2010's takeover of Crystal Palace before making a decision on his future. The goalkeeper, who was named player of the year for a record third season running on Saturday, has already been linked with Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough this summer and could be sold to help fund player wages. Although he says he would like to say at Palace for the rest of his life, he admits he might have to move on to further his career but will wait for news on the takeover before choosing where he will play next season. "I'm waiting for next week to see if we have any news on the future owners of the club," said the 30-year-old, who flew back to Argentina yesterday to spend six weeks with his family. "I'm looking forward to that and seeing where we are and what to do in the near future. "I hear all the rumours about me but I am just waiting, I don't have anything else. "I am still a Palace player and I am happy with that, I just have to wait and see. "I have said many times before I would play here all my life if I could. "I am comfortable and I am happy and my relationship with the fans is fantastic. "If I could play here all my life, then why not? "A footballer's career is a short career though and sometimes you have to do what's best for your family and yourself. "A lot of things are going on at the moment though so we will see what happens." Speroni beat top scorer Darren Ambrose to player of the year at Saturday's award ceremony, equalling Jim Cannon as the only player to win it three times, although he is the first to win three in a row. "It was a special night and the fans were unbelievable with their support," he said. "The loved they showed me was impressive and my team-mates as well, they were outstanding with me. "I can't actually remember what happened when I got the award, lots of things were going through my head at that moment. "Of course it is special to players, it is an award from the fans and the people that really love this club. "To have that recognition from them is really special, you feel loved and you feel wanted. www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/sport/8168997.Speroni__I_would_play_for_Palace_all_my_life_if_I_could/"

Sky 20100526 Prem duo eye Speroni Fulham and West Ham tracking Palace shot-stopper Prem duo eye Speroni Skysports.com understands West Ham and Fulham have entered the race for in-demand Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni. The Argentinean is already a target for Queens Park Rangers, where former Eagles boss Neil Warnock is thought to be eager to bring him in. Last week, Speroni refused to rule out a move to Loftus Road amid reported interest but attention from the Premier League may also appeal to the former Dundee stopper. Having won Palace's Player of the Year for the past three seasons, Speroni could expect to displace 36-year-old Radek Cerny as Rangers' first choice. However, the 31-year-old would face competition from England international Robert Green and Australia international Mark Schwarzer of West Ham and Fulham respectively should their interest materialise. With the club finishing the season in administration, Palace's financial difficulties may leave them no choice but to sell their shot-stopper, who has made 171 appearances for the club. www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11706_6173810,00.html
