NO NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR CARDIFF AND BLACKPOOL MATCH Cardiff-based protests were led by First Minister Rhodri Morgan Friday May 14,2010 THE National Anthem will be missing from a major Wembley showpiece for the first time when Cardiff play Blackpool in the Championship play-off final. The Football League are happier to upset the purists than risk antagonising fans of the Welsh club by dropping the formalities ahead of the game. The issue first arose when the Bluebirds played QPR at the Millennium Stadium in 2003. Cardiff-based protests, led by First Minister Rhodri Morgan, forced them to reverse the League’s initial plan of just playing God Save the Queen. The path of least resistance was taken even though it is a domestic game not an international and that God Save the Queen is the British anthem. www.express.co.uk/posts/view/174997/No-National-Anthem-for-Cardiff-and-Blackpool-match

I like Abide with me, isnt that welsh? Would prefer Jerusalem.... Cannot understand why the national anthem cannot be played, it is not an International. Last time I looked Wales was part of the UK, and that is their national anthem..... Way too much bowing to the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish in this area. I wonder how the Premier League will feel the first time a Cardiff player gets his red card over turned by the FAW....

Prefer Sosban Fach myself. Any country that has a song about a Little Saucepan can't be all bad.......

I wonder how the Premier League will feel the first time a Cardiff player gets his red card over turned by the FAW.... Was thinking that myself. Though getting an answer means they have to get promoted first so I'd rather be left wondering about that!

If Cardiff are so anti-English then why do they continue to play in the English league whenWwales have aperfectly good league of their own? Just think weekly football against the likes of Port Talbot and teams that have plenty of LLLLs in their name.
Of course they wouldn't and would prefer to bite the hand that feeds their crappy football team and their likeable supporters. And sadly the FA roll on their backs and play dead whenever Cardiff tells them to.
Me? I would have told Cardiff that you play in an English league set-up, and that we will play the national anthem. And tough if you don't like it. But I suppose that is too un-PClike.
Com'on Ollie's Blackpool.

After Blackpool beat them next weekend, when Cardiff return to Loftus Road next season, QPR fans should sing the national anthem before the game

Good call Mike, perhaps every english club should follow suit at their respective "home" game against Cardiff just to make a point.

I am willing to bet that Blackpool fans have taken note of Baadiff's protests and will sing the National Anthem before the game in any case. If not then perhaps people should ... how shall I say it .. whisper in their ears.
That would p*ss off those Welsh Nationalists.

Bump a year...Makes me wonder what they'll do this year if Cardiff (or Swansea) make the final
And makes me wonder whether they'll play just the Welsh anthem if it's a Cardiff vs Swansea final (which would be a scandal to do. But doesnt mean they wouldnt do it.)
