LEON JEANNE'S penalty gave Rangers a tremendous 1-0 victory at Crewe Alexandra in the Fourth Round of the Times FA Youth Cup (attendance 1020).
Boss Warren Neill said:" I was very excited by the win. The boys put on an excellent performance on what was a really bad night weather-wise against a very good Crewe team. It was a battling performance all the way.
"There was torrential rain in the early part of the game. Half the pitch was solid and the other half was soaking wet. So the lads had to get used to the conditions very quickly. We started off very well. Crewe, as always, played good football but we wanted to put them under as much pressure as we could to see if they could handle that. We had a couple of early chances and we got our reward with a penalty after 30 minutes.
"We got in the wide left area and Ben Walshe put over a teasing cross. Alvin Bubb was in a good position and just when it looked as if he was going to head it, he got a little nudge. The ref was in a good position to spot the foul and immediately awarded the kick. Leon Jeanne cooly slotted it home.
"In the second half, we were under a bit more pressure as they threw more bodies forward, but on the break we looked very dangerous and could have extended our lead. We’ve had a couple of good wins now in the FA Youth Cup and all we can do is to take one game at a time and keep trying to progress."
