YOUNGSTERS have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling when Brent hold trials for their London Youth Games campaign on Wednesday.
Former Copland Community School student Sterling captained the borough to victory in last year's boys' football tournament, scoring the winner against Camden in the final.
The boy from Neasden went on to play for QPR reserves and represent the England under-16 side at the age of just 14 before Liverpool forked out £500,000 to sign him recently.
Abdi Farah, who will manage the Brent team when they defend their crown in June, said: "Raheem is a winner, pure and simple. He never missed a training session and all the others looked up to him.
"His attitude was spot on. He has been training with us since he was nine and we always knew he was something special."
With Sterling now gone, Brent are expected to struggle in this year's tournament, though Farah insists his team will be taking it extremely seriously.
He added: "We know how tough it can be - even with Raheem in the team, we were fifth in 2008.
"There are a few other really strong teams this year - I would say Croydon are ones to watch - and the semi-finals would be a good target.
"The London Youth Games is very important. It is a chance to showcase the talent we have in the borough and we take it very seriously."
Brent will be holding trials for this year's tournament between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday at the Pavilion, Stonebridge Park, with training sessions to follow each week at the same time.
