WEST Ham boss Gianfranco Zola won 35 Italian caps, the FA Cup, League Cup, and Cup Winners Cup for Chelsea but he has never forgotten the goal he scored in a pre-season friendly at Adams Park.
The midfield maestro rates his thumping left foot strike in a pre-season friendly against the Blues as being right up there among his best goals.
And he is planning to repeat the trick on Thursday night when he returns as part of the Kevin Keen All Star Team which will take on a Wycombe Wanderers Legends XI in a memorial match for Mike Keen.
Zola told the Free Press: “I remember playing at Adams Park and I remember scoring with a powerful left footed shot from the edge of the box. I hope I can reproduce that goal next Thursday and maybe a free kick or two.”
Zola is part of a star-studded side put together by West Ham coach Kevin Keen in memory of his father Mike Keen, the former Wycombe Wanderers manager and ex-QPR, Luton and Watford player who died from Cancer a year ago.
Zola said: “I think the game is a fantastic way of remembering Kevin’s father and also a great way of raising money for Cancer Research.”
Kevin this week named his squad for the match with Zola, Teddy Sheringham, Gus Poyet, Rob Lee and the Allen brothers Martin, Clive and Paul all topping the bill.
Wanderers have also named their squad with Tommy Mooney returning to lead their attack.
But manager Keith Scott, who picked the Wycombe side, won’t now be available to manage them on the night because his Windsor and Eton side are involved in a re-arranged match.
The match kicks off at Adams Park on Thursday, April 15 at 7.45pm. Tickets are available on the day or in advance priced at £10 adults or £1 concessions.
