Brian McDermott....Kenny Jackett and Steve Cotterill
Football LEague McDERMOTT MANAGER OF THE MONTH
Posted on: 03.04.2010
Reading boss Brian McDermott was celebrating today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for March.
Brian McDermott has enjoyed a remarkable run of success since taking charge of Reading at the end of last year. This fine form certainly continued in March, with his side registering four wins and two draws from their six league fixtures. They began the month with three consecutive home victories over Derby County, Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers respectively. The Royals' unbeaten run continued away from Madejski Stadium with a draw at Middlesbrough and a narrow win at Leicester City before rounding off a superb month with a 1-1 draw against title-chasing West Bromwich Albion.
Also shortlisted for the March award were Sean O'Driscoll of Doncaster Rovers, Chris Hughton of Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion's Roberto Di Matteo.
Alan Curbishley, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Brian McDermott has helped engineer a remarkable turnaround in Reading's fortunes since taking charge at the end of last year. His side have enjoyed a tremendous run of form of late, which has seen them go from strong relegation candidates to mid-table security. If they can maintain this form in the final weeks of the season there is no reason why the Play-Offs cannot become a realistic possibility for the Royals."
Kenny Jackett of Millwall won the award in League 1 and Steve Cotterill of Notts County was given the League 2 accolade.
The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel. Headed by Alan Curbishley the panel also includes former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Olaf Dixon of the League Managers Association and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.

Jackett's side enjoyed another terrific month in March, remaining unbeaten with four victories and a draw from their five league games. His side kicked-off the month with an away draw at Walsall and followed this with a comprehensive away win at Carlisle United. The undoubted highlight for the Lions followed in their back-to-back victories over fellow promotion rivals Charlton Athletic and Leeds United to ensure Jackett's men ended the month just outside the automatic promotion places in Coca-Cola League 1.
Also short-listed for the March award were Gus Poyet of Brighton & Hove Albion, Paul Lambert of Norwich City and Southampton's Alan Pardew.
Alan Curbishley, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Millwall have enjoyed another outstanding month under the guidance of Kenny Jackett. Their unbeaten run has seen them go from Play-Off candidates to now being hot on the heels of Leeds United and strong challengers for an automatic promotion place in League 1."
