Ward to the wise
25 March 2010
By Dave Seddon
New-boy Elliott Ward admitted he needed no persuading to sign for Preston North End on loan.
The centre-half joined North End on Tuesday from Championship rivals Coventry City until the end of the season.
With his Sky Blues contract ending in the summer, 25-year-old Ward is keen for a run of first-team football as he seeks new employers for next season.
And PNE will be at the head of the queue for his services if he impresses Darren Ferguson over the next five weeks.
Ward is just catching his breath after a hectic couple of days waiting for the loan deal to be struck between PNE and City.
Tuesday saw him train with Coventry before he was finally given the green light to join-up with the Preston squad ahead of the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
He was an unused substitute at the Riverside Stadium, the team planning already done by the time the defender arrived on Teesside.
But the Londoner could feature in Saturday's Deepdale clash with Queens Park Rangers as Ferguson strives for a meaner defence.
Ward told the Evening Post: "I didn't really stop on Tuesday, it was a long day because I started off training with Coventry and ended up a Preston player on the bench at Middlesbrough.
"The move had been bubbling under for a couple of days but really only started to make progress on Tuesday.
"It then hit a bit of a snag which had me tearing my hair out, although thankfully things got sorted out and now I'm happy to be at Preston.
"This was a good move to make, I didn't really need to talk to Darren Ferguson at length before signing."
