Someone tell QPR - Maybe something to do with ticket prices?FA/David Barber - Crowds are upAround half a million fans braved the wintry conditions to watch exciting FA Cup Third Round action at the weekend. It started on Friday night when 34,040 packed into White Hart Lane with the temperature close to freezing to see Tottenham win their all-Premiership clash with Wigan. On Saturday afternoon there were huge crowds at Arsenal (59,424), Chelsea (41,090) and Manchester City (31,869). Preston's 23,046 for the visit of Liverpool was the biggest at Deepdale since the 1970s. On Sunday they were very close to capacity at Southampton (31,901 v Manchester United) and Gillingham (10,107 v Aston Villa). The likes of Man United, Newcastle and Liverpool were away and a number of the smaller teams were at home (Blyth, Torquay, Forest Green, Kettering etc) - but the 28 ties played so far have attracted 497,157 fans through the turnstiles. The average of 17,755 is about 11% up on last season's completed Third Round. With Manchester United v Tottenham and Liverpool v Everton amongst the Fourth Round ties, that weekend is sure to be a bumper one for crowds too. www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFACup/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2009/01/FACup_3R_Crowds_are_up.htm
