FA cut price of tickets to England matches at Wembley
The Football Association have responded to the credit crunch by cutting ticket prices by up to 25 per cent for England's Wembley internationals for the remainder of the season.
On a busy day for the FA on Tuesday, the governing body announced some important appointments to their 2018 World Cup bid team. Jane Bateman has been named as director of campaign operations while Simon Johnson has been confirmed as chief operating officer. David Magliano, who won huge praise for his marketing work on the 2012 London Olympic bid, has been given the job of director of commercial and marketing.
The FA's marketing department have addressed the economic crisis with Tuesday's move on ticket prices. The 'Fabio Factor' has made England even more of an attractive draw, with Capello's men flying down the road to 2010 World Cup qualifying, but Soho Square are determined to help fans stuggling to afford tickets.
"We want to make watching the national team as affordable as possible – particularly for families – during this difficult economic period,'' said Alex Horne, the FA's chief operating officer.
Prices for England's friendly with Slovakia on March 28 are first to be slashed, with tickets from £30-£40. In an attempt to keep families attending internationals, the FA have expanded the family enclosure by 60 per cent, pricing tickets at £30 for adults and £15 for children.
England appeared to have bucked the credit crunch when 8,000 supporters travelled to Berlin for the Nov 19 friendly, but Wembley has been criticised over the cost of tickets. Supporters' organisations have pointed out that some fans visit Wembley just once, simply to experience the world's most expensive stadium.
The new deal will be particularly beneficial to members of the official supporters' club, englandfans, who will enjoy additional discounts of £5 per adult ticket and £2.50 per child's ticket if they buy between January 23 and 26.
Slovakia tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Jan 27.
England then host Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier on April 1, with prices ranging from £29 to £58.50, a reduced amount taking into account the cut in VAT. Englandfans can apply for Ukraine tickets, including the discount, from Feb 6 while the general public can apply from Feb 10.
