March 2008 - QPR Official Site - RANGERS SIGNINGS LATEST
RANGERS have made two new signings this morning - Tony Scully for £160,000 from Manchester City and Ian Baraclough for £50,000 from Notts County.
Boss Ray Harford says:"Tony Scully is an exciting wide player who I think will be a big success in the future - hopefully straight away. We’ve had a problem here with players who want to play wide. We got Mark Kennedy in on loan to do the job and you saw what he did."
"He started at Palace and then went to Manchester City, where I don’t think it worked particularly well for him due to the tactics they used. They couldn’t play with a winger when they had Kinkladze in the side.
"Meanwhile, Ian Baraclough can play left-back, left side centre half, left midfield, centre midfield and even at centre-forward. I’ve been aware of him for at least three years. When I was at Blackburn, I was very close to signing Ian."
Dublin-born Scully is 21 years old and played a handful of games in the Crystal Palace first team before joining Manchester City last year. Baraclough, 27, has had spells with Leicester, Grimsby, Lincoln, Mansfield and Notts County, making over 200 League appearances.
THURSDAY’S reserve team game against Millwall at Loftus Road has been postponed due to the injury crisis at Rangers.
NIGEL QUASHIE has been named in the England under-21 squad for next week’s trip to Switzerland.

JEANNE IS R'S SUCCESS STORY
LEON JEANNE’S recent elevation from the Academy into the first team has been one of the Rangers success stories of the season.
The 18 year old Welsh starlet made his debut as a substitute against Watford last month at Loftus Road and has started every game since then. He has bags of pace and skill, playing wide and behind the front two.
Leon’s latest appearance was at Bolton on Saturday. He was saddened by the 2-1 defeat for Rangers.
" We had some great chances early on, but we just couldn’t put them away," says Leon. "That was the difference between winning and losing the match.
"I was disappointed with my own game. It was a hard match and Bolton are a strong side, so we didn’t have the ball all the time. If I had got more of the ball, then I could have done more things. But it is all part of the learning process for me."
Nevertheless, Leon is making his mark in the Rangers team. And he’s determined to build on the good start he has made to his R’s career.
He says:" It was a dream come true for me to make my QPR debut. Now that I’m in there, I’ve got to stay there. Overall, I’ve been quite pleased with my form, although I felt I could have played better at Bolton.
"My game is floating around and running at defenders. I’ve been out on the wing, on the left and right, and in the hole behind the front two. I put other people in.
"I’m enjoying being part of the side. We have a great manager in Gerry Francis and we’ve just got to produce the goods for him. Gerry gave me my chance and I’m really pleased. He likes to encourage young players like myself and he’s been telling me to work on crosses and different things."
Leon’s next ambition is to score his first goal for Rangers. He’s been very close to finding the net on a number of occasions so far, although he unselfishly says that the welfare of the team is more important.
"Hopefully I’ll get my first goal against Swindon on Saturday! I’ll make sure I will. But I’m more concerned with three points for Rangers. I have a lot of faith in the lads here and I’m sure we can win the game and go on to climb the table."
With youngsters like Leon Jeanne, Richard Langley and Richard Graham doing so well for Rangers this season, the future of the club looks very bright indeed.

YOUTHS DENIED FAMOUS VICTORY
RANGERS 2 (Bubb 10, Pacquette 80)
NOTTINGHAM FOREST 2(Reid 67, Cash 90) Rangers were denied a famous victory in the Fifth Round of the Times FA Youth Cup by a Nottingham Forest equaliser two minutes into injury time. The attendance was 493 and the replay date is this coming Wednesday, March 24, at the City Ground (7pm).
Youth team boss Warren Neill said:" Obviously when a team scores against you that late, you feel as if you’ve lost the game. Our lads were a bit down in the dressing room after the final whistle, especially the younger players who came straight from school to play for us. Although it is a painful experience, it is invaluable in their learning curve towards becoming a professional footballer.
" We set out our stall to keep it nice and solid. We knew Forest were a good side. We’d had them watched and they are very powerful and very good at passing it around. So we had to play a bit like an away side, especially with the young team that we had available, and we tried to hit them on the counter-attack. It worked for 92 minutes!
"We opened the scoring early on with a very well taken goal. Richard Pacquette showed a good appreciation of where Alvin Bubb was in the middle, and Alvin tucked away the cross very nicely.
"We were under a bit of pressure from Forest in the first half. They kept changing the play very quickly and keeper Nikki Bull made some good saves for us. I thought we played a lot better in the second half, but Forest came back with a goal that was a comedy of errors. We had a free-kick on the halfway line, and we took it quickly when we had no need. So we lost the ball, then our keeper miskicked it, and it went out for a corner from which they scored. So that was down to our own bad play rather than good play from Forest.
"But we came back with a second goal from a set play with 10 minutes to go. Terry McFlynn, who had an excellent game, was very quick on the ball. He flicked it over the defender for Alvin, who hit it and the keeper pushed the ball on to the bar. Richard Pacquette was there to turn it in. Obviously we thought that was going to be the winning goal.
" It was very hard for the lads to take the injury time equaliser by Forest. A lot of the younger boys were tired, and when you get tired you switch off mentally. Unfortunately, it was just a basic long throw and a flick on, which we had dealt with all night. But we just switched off and allowed them to equalise.
"Now we’ve got a tough replay up at the City Ground. But the lads have got nothing to worry about after their performance in Tuesday’s game. They did admirably for the club and we are looking forward to the replay. It will be a good experience for my boys to go up to Nottingham and if we can perform as sternly as we did in the first match, then who knows what will happen."
TEAM Nikki Bull, John Newall, Alex Dick, Terry McFlynn, Carlos Brown, Oliver Burgess, Daniel Wright, Justin Cochrane, Richard Pacquette, Alvin Bubb, Ben Walshe. Subs not used - Marcel Nugent, Adam Rustem, Ryan D’Austin, Patrick Gradley, Danny Murphy.
IAIN DOWIE, Steve Morrow and Keith Rowland are in the Northern Ireland squad for their European Championship Group 3 Qualification ties at the end of the month. The Irish entertain Germany at Windsor Park, Belfast, on March 27 before travelling to play Moldova in Chisinau four days later.
