Briatore rules out F1 return Racing series F1 Date 2010-03-12 By Motorsport.com/GMM Flavio Briatore on Friday ruled out returning to Formula One. The 59-year-old Italian said the FIA is pushing ahead with appealing a French court's overturning of his lifetime motor racing ban, in the wake of the 'crashgate' scandal. But when asked about possibly returning to F1 as a manager or a team owner, the former Renault team boss told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I exclude it 100 per cent. "I still have affection for F1 even if it would have been better to have left at the end of 2006 when Alonso won his second title." Earlier this week, Briatore said he missed some aspects of his former involvement in the sport, but not F1 itself. He also confirmed that he stepped down as chairman of the London football club Queens Park Rangers in order to spare the Football Association the "embarrassment" of being linked to the Singapore race-fixing story. www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=360052&FS=F1

It's an interesting concept though: a QPR Chairman resigning to save the club "embarassment"!

He also confirmed that he stepped down as chairman of the London football club Queens Park Rangers in order to spare the Football Association the "embarrassment" of being linked to the Singapore race-fixing story. What took him so long then, if that's the only reason? The football league did not know or not if they could even touch him as when his original punishment was rescinded he was not foul of league rules. Also taking into account the event had pretty much faded into the distance in the minds of most and was certainly never cited as one of the main annoyances of his reign by the fans calling for him to go just shows that the man lives and dies by spin. Now to eradicate him completely from the board room and then we can begin move on with more dignity than his attachment to our club will ever afford us whilst he remains.

And Slightly expanded “I did it so as not to create embarrassment to the English Football Association after what happened in Singapore,” he said. “ I have stepped aside, but I have held onto my shares.” AP Former Renault team chief Flavio Briatore says he has left Formula One for good, despite having a lifetime ban from the series overturned. “I rule it out 100 percent,” the Italian said in Friday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked if he was thinking of buying another team. Briatore was banned by FIA last September for allegedly ordering Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. to deliberately crash to help teammate Fernando Alonso win the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. However, the ban was overturned by a Paris court in January. FIA has appealed that decision. “For two months I was treated like a criminal,” Briatore said. “I have a bitter taste in my mouth and only I know what I went through. I am calm about the appeal. I did what I had to do. The moral responsibility was given to me, but the real story hasn’t yet been told. “Renault did the minimum that it could,” he said, “but I wasn’t expecting much.” Briatore also blames the scandal for ending his involvement with English football club Queens Park Rangers. He quit as the London club’s chairman last month. “I did it so as not to create embarrassment to the English Football Association after what happened in Singapore,” he said. “I have stepped aside, but I have held onto my shares.” beta.thehindu.com/sport/motorsport/article243522.ece

“I have stepped aside, but I have held onto my shares.” I wonder what that means!!! He personally has 5%. The rest is his was in Sarita or whatever it's called, so what has he actually got? Comments like that do not help to remove any embarassment. Musical chairs?

Briatore stepped aside as not to create embarrassment to the English Football Association
He's not allowed back in F1 so he was going to get banned anyway from the FA
what a gentlemen - please sell your shares asap

Theoretically he could have retained his original shares but now own a smaller share of QPR. Clearly £15m was pump in by someone as new shares which would have diluted the entire share capital.

Not the case. The shares were issued to Bernie, Flavio, Sarita and Sea Dream Limited! (this being a Jersey based company) - I can break these down but; I have ordered a CD of the full list of the shareholders as at the last return, so historical information - and will post all of the shareholders once I've received it.

And the original piece (in Italian)"Briatore «Addio F.1 Ma tifo Alonso: è gasatissimo» «Non torno al 100%, mi dedico alla famiglia.

Like Paladini, he ,moved sideways, NOT left the club as we had hoped. Both gone, problems almost solved.
