Injuries and suspensions
Scott McDonald is still not right after a hernia operation and is visiting a specialist to decide if he should keep playing or rest.
Chris Killen trained on Thursday and could return to the Boro squad for the game after a hamstring injury and a virus kept him out of the last three games.
Rhys Williams and Chris Riggott have both returned to light training following pelvic and hamstring problems respectively.
Tony McMahon has a stress fracture in his foot and is expected to be out for some time.
Long-term absentees Seb Hines (ankle and medial knee ligament damage) and Matthew Bates (anterior cruciate ligament tear) both remain on the sidelines.
QPR's Matt Connolly will face late checks as he aims to recover from an ankle injury picked up five minutes from the end of last weekend's 2-1 win over Doncaster.
Peter Ramage, above, picked up an abdominal strain in the victory, but is expected to be passed fit for the trip north.

Guide to the opposition
There have been some changes at QPR since Boro were at Loftus Road in December. Flavio Briatore has resigned as chairman and the Hoops are onto their third manager, including two caretakers, since the 5-1 drubbing.
Mick Harford is currently caretaker boss at Loftus Road but he has been quoted as saying that he feels this game will be his last.
This is The Hoops' sixth season at this level, having been promoted from League One in 2004.
The west London club are competing outside the top flight for the 14th successive season, having last been in the Premier League in 1995/96.
They finished 11th in the Championship last season and currently sit 18th with 37 points from 31 games.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One to watch: Jay Simpson
The young forward is currently on a season-long loan from Arsenal. After impressing for West Brom during their relegation season last campaign, Simpson was loaned out to QPR this season for further experience.
Simpson is tricky, possesses bags of pace and is QPR's top scorer this season with 12 goals.

The Form Book
The Hoops have made three visits to the Riverside Stadium since its opening in 1995, once in the Premier League in October 1995, once in the Championship in November 1997 and once in the FA Cup in January 1998. On each occasion they've failed to score, losing 1-0, 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
QPR's 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers last weekend was their first in nine games in all competitions and only their second victory in their last 17 games.
After a run of six games unbeaten, Boro have lost their last two, a 2-0 defeat at Blackpool 10 days ago and 1-0 at Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Boro are unbeaten in their last six games at the Riverside.
QPR's last win away from home came on November 7, a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
